"Clumsy" was produced by Fergie's Black Eyed Peas colleague Will.I.Am. She told Interview magazine: "Will is such a great musical encyclopedia. I've learned so much from being in the studio with him and talking to him."
In the same interview Fergie said about this song: "It's kind of a throwback to '60s pop - a modernized version of that. I do a little speech, like the Shangri-Las did in their songs. The vernacular of it very much pays homage to that period."
